Infant Massage (1-6 months old)
April 4-May 2
Fridays, 10.00-11.30am

The original infant-parent connection is important for infants, families and society. All relationships develop from this initial bond. Infant massage helps to form this attachment, affecting who we become and making the foundation for respectful communication.

Early secure child-to-parent connections are the basis for life-long emotional, intellectual and physical health.

For the baby, massage improves circulation and digestion, reduces fussiness, helps baby learn to relax, improves sleep and can reduce the symptoms of colic and GI tract distress.
The benefits for parents are relaxation, enhanced communication with baby, increased prolactin production (the nurturing hormone) and the pleasure and enjoyment shared with baby.

The course teacher, Barbara Essman, trained in infant massage with The Foundation For Healthy Family Living and Kalena Babeshoff. Barbara has been working in Hawaii preschools and infant toddler centers for over 30 years. She lectures at Honolulu Community College, is a doula, a doula trainer, a massage therapist focusing on prenatal massage, and a childbirth instructor.
